Centre Unveils Rs 250 Cr Package for Tribal Community Growth in Tripura
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Friday that the Union Cabinet has approved a ₹250-crore financial package for the development of the state’s tribal communities. This initiative is part of commitments made to former insurgent groups, including the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF).
In a post on his official social media account, Saha highlighted that the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has agreed to introduce a new element under the existing Central Government’s Special Development Package for Tripura. The new package aligns with the Memorandum of Settlement signed by the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, and the two former insurgent organizations.
The funding aims to uplift vulnerable and marginalized tribal communities that have not fully benefited from existing welfare schemes. The resources will be allocated to various initiatives, such as creating job opportunities, enhancing healthcare services, promoting education and skill development, and launching livelihood programs specifically for women and youth. A segment of the funds will also focus on boosting Tripura’s tourism sector to attract visitors nationwide, ultimately generating jobs and supporting sustainable livelihoods in the Northeast region.
Calling this decision “historic,” Chief Minister Saha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their commitment to fostering peace, stability, and prosperity in Tripura.
