
Urgent Rescue: Six Children Freed from Child Labour in Guwahati’s Basistha
Six children were rescued from various construction sites and hazardous workplaces in the Basistha area of Guwahati on Thursday, August 7. This rescue operation was conducted by the Assam Centre for Rural Development (ACRD) in collaboration with the District Level Child Labour Task Force. Officials from the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Childline, and partner NGOs were also involved in the operation.
Following the rescue, the children were taken to Basistha Police Station, where medical examinations were carried out. The police assisted with the necessary legal and procedural formalities to ensure the immediate safety of the rescued minors.
Authorities confirmed that the children will be presented before the Child Welfare Committee on Friday, where further decisions regarding their rehabilitation and care will be made. The operation was initiated based on specific information about child labor in the area, highlighting the ongoing issues related to child exploitation in the region.
