Singer and actor Lady Gaga leads the nominations for the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) with an impressive total of 12 nods. The ceremony is scheduled for September 7, as reported by Variety. Following Gaga, Bruno Mars boasts 11 nominations, while Kendrick Lamar has received 10. Sabrina Carpenter and Rose each earned eight nominations, and both Ariana Grande and the Weeknd received seven.
According to Variety, Billie Eilish has garnered six nods, while Charli XCX secured five. A six-way tie for four nominations includes Bad Bunny, Doechii, Jelly Roll, Ed Sheeran, Tate McRae, and Miley Cyrus. Gaga’s nominations highlight her duet with Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile,” which competes in various top categories, alongside her track “Abracadabra” from the album “Mayhem,” recognized in all technical categories.
This marks the third time Gaga has led the VMAs nominations, having previously topped the list with 13 nominations in 2010 and nine in 2020. Fan voting is currently open for 19 gender-neutral categories, closing on September 5 at 6 p.m. ET, except for the best new artist category, which will remain open until the show begins.
Despite having limited new music videos in the past year, former VMAs winners Taylor Swift and Beyoncé are still in the running for the artist of the year award, a category not restricted to specific videos.
