Thrilling Showdown: Rangdajied Eye Revival Takes on Malaysian Armed Forces
Shillong, Aug 4: I-League side Rangdajied United FC gears up for a critical match in the Durand Cup 2025 on Tuesday, aiming for redemption after a disappointing derby defeat. They will face Malaysia’s Armed Forces Football Association (ATM FA) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong at 7:00 PM IST, in a crucial Group E encounter that demands a victory.
Following a 1-3 loss to local rivals Shillong Lajong, Rangdajied understands that securing three points is essential for keeping their qualification hopes alive. With defending champions NorthEast United FC and a rising Shillong Lajong leading the group, the margin for error has significantly diminished.
“We’ve reflected on the mistakes from the last game,” stated Rangdajied head coach Aibanjop Shadap ahead of the match. “The team is determined to put in a better performance this time. I’ve instructed the players to enjoy the game, play freely, and fight for a result we can be proud of.”
On the other side, ATM FA has already faced challenges in their tournament, suffering heavy losses in both of their matches-a 6-0 defeat against Shillong Lajong and a 3-1 loss to NorthEast United. Despite this, the team showed resilience in the second half of their previous match against NorthEast, where Muhammad Amir Faisal scored a consolation goal.
“We’re approaching every match with the aim to grow and improve,” said ATM FA’s Assistant Head Coach, Masrizar bin Mizalan. “Though the results have not favored us, the players are giving their all. Rangdajied will be another tough test, and we’re focused on finishing strong.”
For Rangdajied, discipline and control will be vital. The team had issues with reckless challenges leading to too many fouls in the earlier match, disrupting their momentum despite generating solid attacking chances. Strengthening their tactical structure will be essential to penetrate the Malaysian defense, which has shown vulnerabilities under sustained pressure.
As the group stage enters its crucial phase, every match carries significant weight. Group E remains competitive, and for teams like Rangdajied United and the Indian Army in Group C, the outcomes of the remaining games could determine their tournament futures.
With high stakes and increasing pressure, Tuesday’s fixtures hold the potential to shape the path to the knockout stages.
