Meghalaya Arrests: Two Assam Men Caught with Over 50g of Heroin
In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Meghalaya police apprehended two suspected drug peddlers from Assam on Monday, seizing over 50 grams of heroin in the West Jaintia Hills district. The operation, based on intelligence inputs, was conducted jointly by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Meghalaya and local police.
The suspects, both hailing from Darrang district in Assam, were intercepted during a routine naka check near Jowai around 4 a.m. They were traveling by bus from Silchar to Shillong when they were detained. A comprehensive search of the individuals led to the discovery of five soap boxes containing heroin, with two boxes hidden on one suspect and three on the other.
The total weight of the confiscated narcotics was confirmed to be 52.02 grams, strategically concealed within their undergarments and clothing pockets. Authorities have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Jowai Police Station.
Investigators are now focused on uncovering the larger network supporting the drug trafficking operations and identifying additional individuals involved in the supply chain.
