Shocking Airport Assault: Army Official Attacks SpiceJet Staff Over Cabin Luggage Fee at Srinagar Airport

A senior Army officer is under investigation following a severe altercation with four employees of SpiceJet at Srinagar Airport on July 26, 2025. The incident escalated after the officer was informed about excess cabin baggage on his flight (SG 386) to Delhi, where he reportedly refused to comply with the airline’s regulations.

According to SpiceJet, the confrontation resulted in significant injuries, including a spinal fracture and severe jaw injuries among the staff members. One employee collapsed and lost consciousness as the officer continued to strike him. Another staff member suffered a bleeding injury to the face while attempting to aid his fallen colleague. The injured employees were immediately transported to a hospital for treatment.

SpiceJet has since filed a First Information Report (FIR) with local authorities and is in the process of placing the passenger on a no-fly list. A spokesperson from the airline stated, “SpiceJet has communicated with the aviation ministry regarding this violent attack on its personnel and has urged for appropriate actions against the passenger.” The airline has also secured CCTV footage of the incident, which has been handed over to the authorities.

The altercation stemmed from the officer carrying two pieces of cabin baggage that weighed 16 kilograms, surpassing the permitted limit of 7 kilograms. When approached about the additional fees, the officer allegedly refused to cooperate and forcibly entered the aerobridge without completing the necessary boarding protocols, violating established aviation security measures. He was escorted back to the gate by a CISF official. Reports indicate that the officer became increasingly aggressive at the gate and physically assaulted four members of SpiceJet’s ground staff.

CISF personnel reportedly intervened quickly to restore order, ensuring regular flight operations were not disrupted. “Necessary action was taken by CISF to manage the situation,” they stated.

SpiceJet has firmly condemned any acts of violence against its employees, emphasizing their commitment to pursuing legal and regulatory recourse in this matter. The airline’s response highlights the ongoing issue of aggression faced by staff in the aviation sector and the necessity for strict adherence to airline regulations.

This incident at Srinagar Airport has raised concerns about passenger behavior and airline safety protocols, underscoring a critical need for awareness and adherence to rules meant to ensure the safety of both passengers and airline personnel. As investigations unfold, the airline aims to ensure that justice is served and that similar occurrences are deterred in the future.

This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges that airline staff face regularly, highlighting the need for a culture of respect and compliance within the aviation sector. The airline industry continues to advocate for stricter enforcement measures to protect its employees and ensure a safe travel experience for all passengers.
