Controversy Erupts: Nandini Kashyap’s Hit-and-Run Leaves GMC Worker Injured
Assamese actor Nandini Kashyap is facing significant public backlash and accusations of insensitivity following a hit-and-run incident that left a worker from the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) critically injured. The victim, Samiul Haque, was performing repairs on street lights when he was struck and is currently in the ICU, having first been admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital before being transferred to Apollo Hospitals for advanced care due to his worsening condition.
The incident occurred late Friday night in the Dakhingaon area of Guwahati, allegedly involving a vehicle driven by Kashyap. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a car traveling at approximately 120 kilometers per hour before hitting Haque. A local shopkeeper claimed that Kashyap tried to flee the scene but was later discovered “hiding in a nearby apartment” by bystanders and GMC workers.
Public outrage intensified when it was revealed that Kashyap did not provide immediate medical assistance to the injured worker. Although she issued a delayed apology and blamed her actions on a “truck obstructing the narrow road,” many felt her explanations were insufficient in addressing the severity of the situation. The victim’s family, still grappling with the shock of the incident, expressed their disbelief over Kashyap’s alleged indifference. Haque’s mother stated, “I want justice. She has not contacted us. She only said that her vehicle was damaged in the accident.” Family sources accused her of showing “no signs of remorse,” declaring that anyone responsible for a hit-and-run must face legal consequences, regardless of their social standing.
The police are now under scrutiny after Kashyap was summoned to Dispur Police Station for questioning, where she endured eight hours of interrogation before being released. Emerging from the station, she insisted, “I did not flee the scene. If I had, I wouldn’t have returned here today.” However, her statements were met with skepticism. Observers noted her avoidance of direct questions from the press and an apparent “indifference to the gravity of the incident.” Her surprising admission, “I didn’t realize the incident was so serious… I wasn’t aware how badly he was injured,” has only fueled public condemnation further.
Social media has erupted with fierce criticism, particularly aimed at the authorities for failing to arrest Kashyap. There are widespread accusations of speeding and driving under the influence alongside persistent inquiries regarding her refusal to stop and assist the injured man. As Haque’s family continues to demand justice, calls for immediate and strong action against Kashyap are growing louder, reflecting a desire for accountability that transcends her celebrity status.
