Unleashing Innovation: DRDO Champions Hypersonic Breakthroughs to Combat Evolving Air Threats!
In a call to bolster India’s missile capabilities, DRDO Chairman Samir V. Kamat emphasized the urgent need for the Kalam Missile Complex to create faster, stealthier, and more agile missile systems. During a recent workshop at the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Kamat particularly highlighted the importance of hypersonic technologies to counter the growing threats posed by advanced air defense systems.
Kamat reflected on the successes of several DRDO systems that were instrumental in ‘Operation Sindoor,’ commending the team for their efforts and urging them to expedite the induction of weapon systems currently undergoing user trials. He underscored that swift development is crucial as geopolitical tensions persist and technology continues to evolve.
The workshop brought together top defence scientists, who engaged in in-depth discussions regarding the performance of indigenous advanced missile systems, including Akash air-defence, BrahMos, MRSAM, and ULPGM. These systems, developed at the missile complex in Hyderabad, played significant roles in Operation Sindoor, demonstrating India’s growing prowess in missile technology.
U. Raja Babu, the Director General of Missiles and Strategic Systems, reiterated the complex’s capability to design and develop a variety of missiles for multiple platforms. His confidence in the facility’s readiness to undertake challenging projects highlights the DRDO’s ambition to remain at the forefront of missile development.
Former DRDO Chairman G. Satheesh Reddy called for greater collaboration between scientists and users to inspire innovative missile designs. He stressed that incorporating cutting-edge technologies and strategic surprise elements is essential for success in future conflicts, reiterating that adaptability and foresight are key in an era defined by rapid technological changes.
The event also featured an exhibition showcasing sub-systems utilized in Operation Sindoor, allowing attendees to gain firsthand insights into the advanced technologies being developed. Distinguished scientist and DRDL Director G.A. Srinivasa Murthy, along with former directors and key figures such as Lt. Gen V.J. Sundaram and A. Sivathanu Pillai of BrahMos Aerospace, contributed valuable perspectives during the discussions.
