"Severe Storm Hits Hyderabad: Power Outages Affect 270 Feeders on July 18 – Residents Urged to Stay Safe!"
In Hyderabad, heavy rainfall on the evening of July 18, 2025, caused significant disruptions to the power supply, affecting approximately 270 electric feeders across the city. The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) reported that power was restored swiftly to areas served by about 200 feeders within half an hour. However, some localities faced prolonged outages.
Musharraf Faruqui, the Chairman and Managing Director of TGSPDCL, confirmed that restoration efforts took longer for the remaining feeders, with issues related to transformer failures leading to delays. By 8 p.m., several areas, including Ameerpet, Malakpet, Habsiguda, and Ramnagar, continued to experience outages, underscoring the severity of the situation. Restoration efforts were ongoing, and while power was reinstated in some regions by 9 p.m., others remained without electricity.
In light of the ongoing issues, Faruqui urged the field-level staff to prioritize resolving complaints, especially those registered concerning distribution transformer problems. He reassured residents that 212 GPS-enabled vehicles and 101 emergency response teams were on standby to address any urgent concerns and expedite power restoration efforts.
Residents experiencing power disruptions can reach out to customer service by calling 1912 or contacting their local fuse-off-call offices for immediate assistance. With continued rainfall forecasted in the coming days, residents are advised to stay informed about potential power outages and remain vigilant for updates from TGSPDCL.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by local utilities during extreme weather events and the importance of robust emergency response systems to maintain service continuity. As Hyderabad grapples with changing weather patterns, the need for efficient infrastructure and proactive measures becomes increasingly critical for the city’s resilience.
Residents are encouraged to remain patient and informed as the situation evolves. The utility’s commitment to restoring power swiftly reflects its dedication to serving the community amidst challenging circumstances.
As the area recovers from this weather event, further communications from TGSPDCL will provide updates on the restoration process and any additional resources available for residents.
