Arunachal Minister Celebrates New Household Tap Water Connection Achievements
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh’s Public Health Engineering and Water Supply Minister Mama Natung recently praised the department for a significant achievement: making Arunachal Pradesh the first state in Northeast India to provide 100% household tap water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). Speaking at the inaugural state-level coordination meeting held at Ato Ringso Hall in Lumdung, East Kameng district, he urged departmental officers to sustain this momentum and focus on various centrally sponsored schemes closely monitored by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Arunachal Pradesh has now become the tenth state in India, and the first in the Northeast, to reach total saturation under this flagship program. The accomplishment was made possible thanks to a total funding amounting to ₹3,965.41 crore from the central government, complemented by ₹455.51 crore from the state government. Natung described this milestone as a “vital public service success,” congratulating the officers for their commitment to ensuring water access for even the most remote households.
In addition to celebrating this achievement, Natung emphasized the necessity of improving implementation efficiencies in sewage and sanitation systems, particularly under various schemes, including the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).
