Security Forces Seize 86 Weapons and Massive Ammo Cache in Imphal Valley
In a significant operation on July 15, security forces in Manipur recovered 86 firearms and approximately 974 rounds of ammunition amid ongoing unrest in the region. Based on credible intelligence reports, coordinated search operations were executed across multiple sites in five districts of the Imphal valley during the early hours of the day.
Joint teams comprised of the Manipur Police, Army, Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) successfully located a substantial cache of arms and a large quantity of ammunition in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching. The recovered firearms included 16 Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), nine additional rifles, five each from the AK series and .303 rifles, alongside three INSAS rifles, 19 pistols, two carbines, 16 single-barrel and bore action rifles, two anti-riot guns, and 11 other types of guns.
The ammunition haul featured grenades, high explosives, mortar shells, tube launchers, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). In addition, security forces seized 41 assorted magazines and six wireless handsets throughout the operations.
These intelligence-led efforts signal a major achievement for the Manipur Police and affiliated security forces in their ongoing pursuit to restore order and ensure the safety of residents. The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace in Manipur, urging the public to cooperate by promptly reporting any suspicious activities or information regarding illegal arms to local authorities.
Senior police officials are collaborating closely with all security stakeholders to ensure the continuation of such operations. The aim is to maintain public order and restore normalcy for all citizens. This recovery adds to a series of significant breakthroughs within the month; on July 4, another operation resulted in the capture of 203 arms and around 160 types of ammunition from four hilly districts. Prior to that, on June 14, 328 arms and approximately 9,300 rounds of ammunition were seized from the same five Imphal valley districts.
