Northeast’s New Passport Seva Mobile Van Service: Quick Access Awaits!
In Guwahati, a significant effort to enhance passport accessibility for citizens in remote and rural areas was unveiled with the launch of the Passport Seva Mobile Van Service by Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, Joint Secretary for the Passport Seva Project and Chief Passport Officer at the Ministry of External Affairs. This initiative, which is part of the Ministry’s ongoing Passport Seva Aapke Dwar programme, aims to facilitate last-mile delivery of passport services in the far-flung regions of the North East.
The mobile van will reach out to remote villages and towns, allowing residents to submit passport applications without the burden of traveling to distant Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs). The Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Guwahati currently manages six PSKs and 19 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras across six North Eastern states.
Describing the mobile van as a “one-stop shop,” Dr. Srinivasa highlighted that all necessary processes for submitting a passport application can be conducted directly within the van. Each of the 37 RPOs nationwide has been equipped with one mobile van, with plans underway for further expansion of this fleet.
The launch event was attended by senior officials from RPO Guwahati, TCS, and Gauhati University. During his visit, Dr. Srinivasa also engaged with key figures including Assam’s Director General of Police, Harmeet Singh, Additional DGP Hiren Chandra Nath, and Chief Postmaster General Col. Arvind Varma. He inspected both the RPO and Passport Seva Kendra in Guwahati, commending the officials’ commitment and urging them to uphold high standards of transparency, efficiency, and integrity.
