Football enthusiasm is set to take over Assam’s Kokrajhar as it prepares to host the prestigious Durand Cup Tournament 2025. The 134th edition of this historic football competition will run from July 23 to August 23, encompassing six venues: Kolkata, Kokrajhar, Shillong, Imphal, and Jamshedpur.
A highlight of the tournament’s buildup will be the trophy display ceremony scheduled for July 15 at Bodofa Auditorium in Kokrajhar. The iconic trophies will then embark on a Trophy Tour throughout the Kokrajhar district, aimed at engaging the public and stirring excitement in anticipation of the matches.
This will mark the third consecutive year that Kokrajhar hosts Asia’s oldest football tournament, running from July 27 to August 16, 2025. The elite tournament is being organized with the support of the Indian Army and the dedicated leadership of the Bodoland Territorial Council, taking place at the Sports Authority of India Stadium in Kokrajhar.
Significant figures will attend the ceremony, including Pramod Boro, Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council; Nandita Gorlosa, Minister for Sports & Youth Welfare; Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Minister for Welfare of Bodoland; Lieutenant General Gambhir Singh, General Officer Commanding Gajraj Corps; Major General Rohin Bawa, General Officer Commanding Red Horns Division; and Major General Rajesh Arun Moghe, Vice Chairman of the Durand Cup Organising Committee.
On July 4, President Droupadi Murmu unveiled the trophies for the Durand Cup Tournament 2025 at a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi. Organized by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army on behalf of the three Services, the tournament will feature matches between Services teams and some of India’s top football clubs.
In recent years, the Durand Cup has also seen international participation, with Army teams from neighboring countries entering the competition. Last year, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand and Shillong in Meghalaya were added as hosts, broadening the tournament’s reach.
