Urgent Inspections Underway in Kohima After Devastating Landslides
The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) in Nagaland conducted on-site inspections in four areas affected by landslides caused by heavy rainfall early on July 9. The inspection, led by the Chairman, Deputy Chairman, and local councillors, aimed to assess the damage and engage with residents about the situation.
At the PHQ junction, two vehicles were reported damaged, and part of a boundary wall collapsed. Councillor Medovinuo Martin Suohu noted that reconstruction efforts are already underway, with the PHQ department actively working to rebuild the wall and address additional structural concerns.
The inspection team also visited Mezhür, Ura, and Razhu Point, locations that have garnered significant attention on social media. KMC confirmed that the damaged section near the Razhu Point bridge will be restored after the completion of ongoing construction and the removal of building materials.
During the assessment, officials identified several drainage issues contributing to the landslides. They assured the public that prompt remedial measures would be taken to address these problems.
The day-long inspection concluded with a visit to the High School area, finalizing the council’s efforts to evaluate the damage, coordinate response strategies, and raise awareness about the importance of maintaining cleaner surroundings to mitigate future risks.
