Unlock Convenience: Namma Metro Tickets Now Available on 9 More Apps!
Passengers at Namma Metro stations will soon experience a more streamlined ticket purchasing process thanks to a new initiative from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). In a bid to enhance digital access and facilitate seamless travel, BMRCL has launched QR ticketing through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). This initiative allows commuters to buy metro tickets via nine popular consumer apps.
The newly included platforms are EaseMyTrip, Highway Delite, Miles & Kilometres (available through Telegram), Namma Yatri, OneTicket, Rapido, Redbus, Tummoc, and Yatri – City Travel Guide. These apps complement existing options like the Namma Metro mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot (8105556677), and the Paytm app, giving passengers a variety of choices for purchasing tickets.
BMRCL Managing Director M. Maheshwar Rao emphasized that this expansion aligns with a broader vision to unify first, middle, and last-mile connectivity into a cohesive digital ecosystem. He stated, “With cab and auto services already available on ONDC since 2023, the addition of metro ticketing completes a vital link in the multi-modal transport chain.” This integration enables commuters to plan and book their entire journey from home to destination using a single mobile app, ultimately saving time and enhancing convenience.
Rao further noted that adopting open network standards represents a significant shift towards more inclusive and technology-driven urban mobility in Bengaluru. The initiative aims to not only boost operational efficiency but also improve the overall commuter experience.
As Namma Metro experiences over 850,000 daily riders on weekdays, the introduction of QR ticketing is a critical advancement in delivering a more commuter-centric, app-integrated travel experience. This step empowers passengers by providing them with multiple ticketing options while reaffirming BMRCL’s commitment to digital transformation and sustainable public transport.
The initiative reflects a growing trend towards digitizing urban transit, fostering a more user-friendly experience that caters to the needs of modern commuters. By embracing these technological innovations, BMRCL is positioning itself as a leader in urban mobility solutions, underscoring Bengaluru’s status as a forward-thinking metropolis.
As travelers in the city adapt to these changes, the new ticketing options will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping their daily commuting experience. The integration of multiple ticketing platforms not only simplifies the process but also aligns with the city’s aim for an efficient and sustainable transport network.
In summary, BMRCL’s rollout of QR ticketing through the ONDC sets the stage for a more efficient public transportation experience in Bengaluru, enhancing both accessibility and convenience for the city’s passengers. This strategic move not only aims to reduce waiting times at stations but also streamlines the journey from start to finish, contributing to a modern, connected urban landscape.
