New Guwahati Flyovers Set to Transform City Ahead of Inauguration
Ahead of their official opening on Sunday, the newly constructed flyovers at Rukminigaon and Supermarket in Guwahati will be named Bhagadatta II and Bhagadatta I, as announced by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. During his visit to Baksa district, Sarma emphasized that the naming was influenced by longstanding requests from the Kalita community to honor the ancient ruler. “King Bhagadatta, son of Narakasura, was a prominent king of ancient Kamrup. There’s been a persistent demand from the Kalita community for this acknowledgment. We believe this will not only commemorate our rich cultural heritage but also help alleviate traffic issues,” he stated.
The Rukminigaon flyover, spanning 950 meters in length, was built within nine months at an expense of Rs 111 crore. It is part of various infrastructure initiatives aimed at enhancing traffic flow in crucial areas of the city. Associating the new flyovers with a historical figure underscores the government’s goal of merging cultural legacy with urban development. Both flyovers are scheduled to be inaugurated on July 6.
