The legislation, referred to as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” passed with a slim margin of 51-50, thanks to Vice President J.D. Vance casting the tie-breaking vote after more than 24 hours of deliberation. Only three Republican senators did not support the measure. The bill now moves to the House of Representatives, where it faces a closely contested vote in the coming days.
Trump has set a July 4 deadline for Congress to send the bill to his desk, intensifying pressure on House Republicans, who have a narrow majority of 220-212. Following the Senate vote, Trump took to Truth Social to express his approval, stating, “We are delivering for the forgotten men and women of America,” and hailed the legislation as a “historic reset of the economy.”
