A public grievance redressal meeting took place recently, during which a group of individuals suddenly stormed in. They dragged out a senior official from Odisha, subjecting him to severe abuse. Allegations suggest he was physically assaulted, including being kicked and punched, in a glaring incident that unfolded in the state capital. Former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik commented on the incident, expressing concerns over safety for officials.
The victim of this attack is Ratnakar Sahoo, an Additional Commissioner of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation. Reports indicate that he was harassed in the presence of a BJP councilor. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing a group of young men attacking him within the municipal office premises while using foul language and taunting him. The assailants alleged that Sahoo had mistreated a BJP leader.
Sahoo further claimed that the attackers forcefully attempted to shove him into their vehicle. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Monday when six individuals, known to the victim, entered his office chamber with a councilor and began harassing him.
This shocking event has prompted sharp criticism from Naveen Patnaik, who expressed his disbelief at the video of the assault. He called for immediate and exemplary action against the political leaders involved in orchestrating this disgraceful attack. Patnaik noted on social media, “A senior government officer is not safe in his own office. What can the common citizen expect from the government regarding law and order?”
The Congress party has also denounced this incident. Following the filing of a complaint, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the attack.
Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das condemned the incident and emphasized that no one feels safe in such circumstances, urging for the swift arrest of others involved. In light of the incident, the Chief Minister met with officials from the Odisha administration on Monday, assuring strict punitive measures against all those involved in the assault.
