In a significant enhancement to emergency healthcare for accident victims, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has revealed that over 2,657 individuals injured in road traffic accidents have benefited from cashless treatment in state hospitals since May 30, 2024. This initiative, part of the Assam government’s road safety and trauma care program, offers cashless treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh for a duration of seven days to each eligible accident victim. The goal is to ensure that critical patients receive prompt medical attention without the financial burden during the crucial golden hours immediately following an accident.
“Our government is committed to saving lives. Timely medical care should never be delayed due to lack of money,” the Chief Minister stated in a social media post. Official data indicates that treatments amounting to ₹2.7 crore have been facilitated under this scheme. A network of 46 empanelled hospitals, equipped with trauma care facilities, is actively involved in delivering these services.
The scheme is being rolled out across all districts of Assam, ensuring broad accessibility and coverage. Hospitals selected for participation include both public and private institutions capable of providing emergency trauma care. This initiative forms part of a larger effort by the Assam government to enhance road safety, improve post-accident response systems, and reduce fatalities associated with delayed medical care.
