TV actor couple Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma are currently facing serious legal trouble as the Goa Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against them for allegedly abducting Bengali filmmaker Shyam Sunder Dey and extorting money from him. The complaint was initially lodged at the Panache police station in Kolkata on June 12 by Dey’s wife, Malabika. However, given that the alleged crime occurred in North Goa, the case has since been transferred to the Calangute Police, as confirmed by police officials.

According to the FIR, Banerjee and Verma, along with their associate Piyush Kothari, are accused of seizing Dey’s two mobile phones, forcibly extracting personal data and passwords, and threatening to misuse that information. In a troubling account, Malabika Dey reported that her husband had a familial relationship with the actor couple, who had initially offered to support his business project. With 50 films to his credit, Dey often interacts with investors, which may have fostered this close bond.

Malabika claimed that on May 31, while working on a script-writing assignment in Goa alongside his assistant, her husband was intercepted by a black vehicle. She alleged that he was then kidnapped by “goons” affiliated with Banerjee and Kothari, taken to an undisclosed location, and subjected to physical assault. The sobering details laid out in the FIR describe a scene where Dey was pressured into paying ₹64 lakh under the threat of being implicated in a narcotics case.

“The accused seized his two mobile phones, forcibly extracted his personal data and passwords, and threatened to misuse them,” the FIR states. In a frightening turn, the victim was reportedly taken to a hotel where he was staying before being moved to a separate villa on June 1.

Under immense psychological pressure, Malabika alleged that her husband managed to pay around ₹23 lakh to the accused between May 31 and June 3. Acting swiftly, she sent an email on June 3 to senior police officials in Goa, which led to her husband’s rescue on June 4.

As the investigation unfolds, Goa Police have summoned Dey to provide a statement regarding the alleged events. A police official confirmed, “We have asked him to appear before the investigating officer as soon as possible.” Charges against Banerjee, Verma, and Kothari include kidnapping, assault, and extortion-a legal storm that highlights the darker side of the film industry.

This situation raises pressing questions about personal relationships and professional boundaries in the highly competitive world of filmmaking. The ongoing investigation will likely uncover more details as authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this alarming case.

As the couple grapples with these serious accusations, the public awaits further developments, shedding light on the intricate web of connections and conflicts that often lurk behind the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry.
