On June 23 and 24, members of the National Conference from Meghalaya, alongside officials from the Assembly Secretariat, convened in Mumbai for discussions related to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and State Legislature’s Estimates Committee. The gathering included key figures such as Mayralborn Syiem, the Chairman of the Estimates Committee and MLA from Nongpoh, as well as other representatives like Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar from Mawkyrwat, Wailadmiki Shylla from Jowai, Miani D. Shira from Ampati, and Arbinstone B. Marak from Selsella. The attendees also featured Andrew Simons, the Commissioner and Secretary of the Meghalaya Assembly Secretariat.
The conference was highlighted by a speech from Om Birla, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, who emphasized the theme “Role of Estimates Committee in Effective Monitoring and Review of Budget Estimates for Ensuring Efficiency and Economy in Administration.” This dialogue aimed to deepen understanding of efficient budget allocation and management.
During the discussions, Mayralborn Syiem reiterated the importance of the Estimates Committee in enhancing the legislative framework in Meghalaya, stressing its role in ensuring that budgetary allocations serve the intended purposes effectively and contribute to sound governance. The National Conference’s ongoing efforts underscore a commitment to enhancing the legislative process in the state, fostering accountability and transparency within the Assembly.
