The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has implemented several initiatives to accommodate the influx of devotees traveling to Guwahati for the annual Ambubachi Mela at the Kamakhya temple. These measures aim to improve passenger movement and enhance overall services during this significant religious event.
To handle the increased number of travelers, special ticket counters have been established at Kamakhya and Guwahati railway stations, operating 24/7 to facilitate efficient ticketing and reduce wait times for devotees.
Supporting the pilgrims, the Northeast Frontier Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (NFRWWO), led by Shalini Shrivastava, is providing food and water distribution services. Packaged meals and bottled water are being offered to meet the basic needs of visitors during the event.
Regarding train services, NFR has introduced additional operations to ease the Ambubachi rush. A daily unreserved train has been scheduled between Guwahati and Alipurduar Junction. Train No. 05672 will leave Guwahati at 7:25 PM from June 22 to June 26, arriving in Alipurduar at 4:00 AM the next day. The return service, Train No. 05671, will depart Alipurduar Junction at 8:00 AM from June 23 to June 27, reaching Guwahati by 4:20 PM.
Additionally, there will be an unreserved train service between Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri. Train No. 05698 is set to depart Guwahati at 11:55 PM on June 26, arriving in New Jalpaiguri at 8:15 AM the following day. The return journey, Train No. 05697, will leave New Jalpaiguri at 11:15 AM on June 27, arriving back in Guwahati by 7:30 PM the same day.
To ensure safety and manage crowd control, extra staff from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) have been deployed. Additional commercial and technical personnel are also available at key stations to assist passengers, with help desks and information booths established to address queries and provide guidance.
