An hour’s drive from Bengaluru, The Isle by Wonderla promises a refreshing getaway for water enthusiasts and adventure seekers. Since its inception in 2005, the Wonderla amusement park has been a popular summer retreat, now enhanced by the addition of this water-themed resort located just off Mysore Road. Having not visited Wonderla since my teens, the allure of The Isle immediately captivated me, especially given Bengaluru’s limited beach options.
As I embarked on my journey around midday, I was pleasantly surprised to reach Mysore Road without the usual traffic delays. Upon arrival, the impressive clock tower, part of the Sky Tilt ride, welcomed me-a reminder of the thrill and excitement that Wonderla offers. The Isle is conveniently situated adjacent to the amusement park and spans 4.5 acres, featuring 39 rooms designed to immerse guests in a relaxing atmosphere.
The moment I stepped into my cottage, I was struck by the charming decor. The room, though modest in size, boasted a four-poster bed and a luxurious bathtub. However, the true draw was the view through the French windows, where a tranquil lagoon awaited, complete with a hammock for leisurely relaxation. With rain gently falling outside, I savored a warm cup of tea while listening to the soothing sounds of nature. The Isle offers a variety of accommodations, including water hammock cottages, properties with private jacuzzis, and unique dome-shaped cottages with skylights. For the adventurous souls, tent-style rooms equipped with air conditioning and bathrooms are also available.
After settling in, I joined Arun K. Chittilappilly, the executive chairman of Wonderla Holidays Ltd., for a coffee mixology session hosted by Maverick and Farmer. This gathering allowed us to connect with the Wonderla team and explore the property further. A highlight of the experience was climbing the treehouse, which offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape-a perfect vantage point for sunset watching. The sandy area adjacent to the lobby features gazebos, enhancing the resort’s beach-like ambiance. Additionally, a temperature-controlled pool invites guests to unwind in comfort. Concerns about sustainability were addressed; I learned that The Isle employs closed-loop water reuse systems, minimizing environmental impact.
The resort is also pet-friendly, featuring a dedicated pet park for furry companions. Although the Therapy Tree Spa was not operational during my visit, it promises signature treatments inspired by local ingredients and traditions.
Dinner at the Spice Cove restaurant was a culinary adventure, showcasing an open kitchen serving baos, dim sum, and ramen. While the food was satisfactory, the standout experience was at the Oasis poolside bar, where patrons can relax in water-level bar stools while enjoying cocktails. Currently, the bar offers a selection of wines and wine cocktails but will expand its offerings soon.
As I reflected on my stay, the serene ambiance of the lagoon and the soothing sounds of trickling water provided a perfect backdrop for relaxation. Upon departure the next morning, I felt rejuvenated and grateful for this tranquil escape from the bustling city.
