In fresh violence reported in Manipur, an elderly farmer from Bishnupur district sustained a bullet wound after suspected armed miscreants opened fire on Thursday afternoon. The victim, identified as Ningthoujam Biren, was shot in the left forearm and is currently receiving treatment at RIMS Hospital in Imphal.
The incident took place around 3:15 PM in Phubala, where Biren and two other farmers were tending to a paddy field near the foothills. Eyewitnesses reported hearing approximately five gunshots from the nearby hills, causing panic among those working in the field.
Authorities have dispatched a police team to the site, and an investigation is in progress to uncover the details surrounding the incident. However, no official statements were available from police or security agencies at the time of this report.
