Nino Iralu Takes Office as Nagaland’s Dynamic New Lokayukta
Retired judge Nino Iralu was officially sworn in on Monday as the new Lokayukta of Nagaland, becoming the third person to hold this important position in the state. The ceremony took place at the conference hall of the civil secretariat in Kohima. Iralu succeeds Banuo Z Jamir, who was appointed in December 2022, after a long vacancy following the resignation of the state’s first Lokayukta, Justice Uma Nath Singh, in February 2021. Following Singh’s resignation, Upa-Lokayukta Mayang Lima managed the responsibilities during the interim period.
The oath of office was administered to Iralu by Chief Secretary J Alam, with proceedings initiated by Home Commissioner Anoop Khinchi. Attendees at the ceremony included senior government officials, staff of the Lokayukta, and members of Iralu’s family. As a retired district and sessions judge, Iralu brings significant experience to her new role. Her appointment was made by the governor based on recommendations from the Selection Committee established under the Nagaland Lokayukta Act of 2017.
