Samsung Electronics announced on June 8 that it will implement an artificial intelligence (AI) coding assistant named Cline next month, aimed at improving productivity for its software development team. According to an internal memo, the company has begun a beta test of Cline for employees in its Device eXperience (DX) division, which encompasses mobile, television, and home appliance sectors, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
Cline, an open-source AI tool, enables developers to write, edit, and test code using simple natural language commands, such as “create a login function.” Unlike traditional coding assistants that focus only on basic tasks, Cline can manage more intricate software development processes, thereby significantly enhancing productivity.
Samsung intends to continue beta testing Cline until the end of this month, with plans to officially launch the service as early as next month. Additionally, the company has formed a dedicated AI productivity innovation group within the DX division, which will act as a central control tower for developing AI infrastructure and systems across the organization while assisting with the integration of AI tools in various business areas.
In parallel, Samsung will convene executive-level meetings later this month to strategize for the second half of the year. The global strategy meetings for the electronics division are set for June 17–19. These meetings, held semi-annually in June and December, involve leaders from each business division who assess regional and specific business challenges while planning goals and sales strategies for the upcoming year.
This year’s agenda is expected to focus on navigating increasing global uncertainties, particularly in response to the shifting trade policies under U.S. President Donald Trump’s second administration. Participants will also evaluate vulnerabilities in the supply chain and contemplate region-specific responses.
Roh Tae-moon, the acting head of the Device eXperience division, and Jun Young-hyun, head of the Device Solutions division, will lead the discussions. Notably, Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong is not expected to participate in these meetings, as has been customary in previous years. The Device Solutions division, which manages Samsung’s semiconductor business, is anticipated to engage in thorough discussions about sales strategies and enhancing long-term competitiveness.
