Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Sunday, June 8, that the state’s agricultural policies have successfully doubled farmers’ incomes over the past eight years, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national targets. Speaking at a public event at the Tufanialunga tea estate in West Tripura, Saha highlighted that the average monthly income for farmers rose from ₹6,580 in 2016 to ₹13,590 in 2024. Tripura is home to approximately 474,000 farmers, many benefiting from various government initiatives.

“The current government is dedicated to enhancing the livelihoods of farmers, which is essential for bolstering the rural economy. Prime Minister Modi refers to farmers as ‘Annadata,’ and it is his vision to double their income-a goal we have already achieved in Tripura,” Saha stated.

The Chief Minister elaborated on the support for the agricultural community, revealing that farmers in Tripura have received ₹2,272 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. The state government has also facilitated the sale of paddy under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) framework, totaling ₹23 crore, and provided ₹446 crore in credit linkages through the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme.

To promote modern farming practices, the government has distributed agricultural machinery valued at ₹204.50 crore through the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department. Saha commended the nationwide Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan initiative, aimed at advancing agricultural welfare. In Tripura, Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath leads the program, which seeks to engage 172,000 farmers across 864 gram panchayats and village committees.

In terms of tea garden workers’ welfare, the Chief Minister revealed a plan to revitalize inactive tea estates by transferring management to the workers through cooperative systems. “We are committed to ensuring sustainable development for the tea industry in Tripura,” Saha added.
