A multi-specialty health camp was held at the Nabam Deepak Living Home in Sopo village by the Indian Medical Association of Arunachal Pradesh (IMA-AP) and the Arunachal Pradesh Doctors’ Association (APDA) to commemorate National Doctors’ Day. The initiative benefited hundreds of underprivileged individuals, providing them with free medical care.

The camp featured a wide array of medical services, including screenings and consultations across various specialties. Over 50 doctors from the ICR region volunteered their time to assist patients who often lack both financial resources and caregivers.

Dr. Kesang Wangdi Thongdok, President of IMA-AP, spoke to India Today NE about the event, clarifying that it was part of a series of social initiatives leading up to Doctors’ Day on July 1. “Last week, we organized a highway cleaning drive, and now we are offering free medical screenings at this center for the destitute. Many of the individuals here have been abandoned by their families and face psychological illnesses. This prompts us to conduct comprehensive screenings,” he noted.

Dr. Thongdok emphasized that the entire initiative is funded by the medical community, expressing gratitude for the voluntary support of Doimukh MLA Nabam Vivek, who contributed to the cause in his home constituency. He also highlighted the aim to promote various government health schemes like PMAY, ABHA, CMAAY, and TB screening through this event.

Social activist Deepak Nabam, whose humanitarian efforts were recognized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Mann Ki Baat program, shared insights on the living home. “We currently accommodate 304 destitute individuals, many from Itanagar. Due to infrastructure limitations, we recently moved some residents to this new facility in Sopo, inaugurated in May 2025,” he said.

He expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Pema Khandu for both moral and physical support in making the 50-bedded living arrangement possible. “The Prime Minister’s acknowledgment of my work is immensely appreciated, and I remain dedicated to serving those forsaken by society,” he affirmed.

The theme of the event, “Healing Hands, Caring Hearts,” resonates with the spirit of the medical community. The organizing team included notable figures such as Dr. Kesang Wangdi Thongdok (Chairman), Dr. Dusu Gambo (Organizing Secretary), and Dr. Tumge Loyi (Social Service Secretary).

Dr. Marbom Basar, the Director of Health Services, attended as the chief guest and commended both the organizing committee and Deepak Nabam for their acts of compassion, stating that such initiatives from the medical community restore faith in humanity.

The health camp provided consultations in various medical fields, including Psychiatry, Dermatology, General Medicine, Surgery, ENT, Gynaecology, Dental Care, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, and Ophthalmology, along with laboratory services. On-site registration for government health schemes such as ABHA Health ID, CMAAY, PMJAY, and Vay Vandana was also available.

The celebration of Doctors’ Day commenced with a cleanliness drive near IMA House on NH-415 on June 1, 2025, and is set to conclude on July 1, 2025, at Waii International.
