Empowering Future Champions: Lovlina Boxing Academy Opens in North Guwahati
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the ‘Lovlina Boxing Academy’ on Thursday, June 5, at Borchandra, North Guwahati. This facility aims to nurture the next generation of boxing talent in the state. Named after Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain, the academy is a significant development in Assam’s sporting landscape. During the inauguration, the Chief Minister praised Lovlina for her outstanding achievements, highlighting her as a symbol of resilience and pride for both the state and the nation.
“Assam’s emerging pugilists now have a dedicated platform to pursue their aspirations,” Sarma stated on social media platform ‘X’. He emphasized that this world-class center, under the leadership of Lovlina, is equipped with modern training amenities designed to prepare young athletes for both national and international competitions.
Reiterating its commitment to fostering sports, the Assam government has allocated ₹2 crore through the Department of Sports for the academy’s infrastructure development. These funds will support the construction of a residential hostel for trainees, aiming to create a conducive training environment.
To ensure accessibility for all aspiring athletes, the training fee has been nominally set at ₹500, a move that has been well-received by the sporting community. Lovlina, visibly emotional during the ceremony, expressed her gratitude to the Chief Minister. “This academy is not just a facility; it represents the fulfillment of a long-held dream. I am sincerely thankful to Hon’ble CM @himantabiswa sir for inaugurating the ‘Lovlina Boxing Academy & Gym’. Your steadfast support motivates us to aspire to produce future champions who will make Assam and India proud,” she remarked.
