Urgent Call for Vigilance: Sikkim Governor Inspects Indreni Bridge Amid Rising Water Levels
As water levels continue to rise due to persistent rainfall in the Singtam region, Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur visited the Indreni Bridge on Tuesday to evaluate the situation. This brief inspection aimed to assess the state’s preparedness amid growing concerns of potential flooding in low-lying areas.
Accompanied by Commissioner-cum-Secretary Jitendra Singh Raje and other officials from the Raj Bhavan, Governor Mathur engaged with members of the Singtam Nagar Panchayat, local authorities, and residents. This dialogue provided valuable insights into the effects of the escalating river levels on the community.
While conditions have not yet reached a critical state, heightened water flow has led to increased vigilance. Officials are now on alert and preparing for possible emergencies.
“The focus must be on preparedness,” Mathur emphasized during the visit. “Early action and public awareness are crucial to preventing any loss.” He underscored the importance of inter-departmental collaboration during the monsoon season and urged local agencies to monitor the situation closely. Residents in at-risk areas were encouraged to follow official advisories and exercise caution.
