Tripura is gearing up to celebrate the century-old Kharchi Puja festival, a week-long event that begins on July 3. Preparations are underway to ensure a memorable celebration centered around the worship of Chaturdasa Devata, the ancestral deity revered by the Tripuri people. This festival attracts thousands of devotees from across the nation, who gather at the popular religious shrine to partake in the festivities.
A significant preparatory meeting was held today at the West Tripura District Magistrate’s Conference Hall, led by MLA Ratan Chakraborty. The meeting focused on the smooth organization of the celebrations at the Chaturdasa Devata Temple in Khayerpur, located within the Old Agartala block.
During the meeting, MLA Chakraborty highlighted the festival’s importance, stating, “Kharchi is not just a religious festival; it is a matter of cultural pride for Tripura. It reflects our rich heritage and draws pilgrims not only from within the state but also from beyond its borders.” He called for collaborative efforts from various government departments, social organizations, and the public to ensure the event’s success.
Additional District Magistrate Sajal Biswas presented key logistical points for the festival. The discussions emphasized enhancing infrastructure around the temple area, which includes adequate lighting, clean drinking water, health services, and an efficient parking system. The goal is to create a safe, hygienic, and accessible environment throughout the week, particularly during the evening.
As in previous years, government departments will establish exhibition stalls to raise awareness about various welfare schemes and development programs, providing the public with important information. The Information and Cultural Affairs Department is also set to host daily cultural programs featuring renowned artists from the state, enriching the festival’s offerings and contributing to a vibrant atmosphere.
