Tripura Surpasses National Average in Dramatic School Dropout Reduction
Tripura has achieved significant progress in lowering student dropout rates across primary, upper primary, and secondary education levels, surpassing national averages in crucial indicators, as per recent data from the Department of School Education.
At the primary level, the dropout rate in Tripura decreased from 1.4% in the 2022-23 academic year to just 0.5% in 2023-24, considerably better than the national average of 1.9%. The upper primary dropout rate also showed improvement, declining from 5.9% to 4.1% in the same period, falling below the national average of 5.2%.
The most substantial decrease occurred at the secondary level, where dropout rates plummeted from 17.9% in 2022-23 to 10.4% in 2023-24. This contrasts sharply with the national average of 14.1% for secondary dropouts in 2023-24.
These encouraging figures reflect the state’s ongoing commitment to promoting inclusive and quality education. A government official attributed these positive outcomes to targeted interventions, including student tracking, community engagement, enhancements to mid-day meal programs, and improvements in school facilities.
The official emphasized that Tripura is dedicated to ensuring equitable access to education, resulting in tangible improvements. “We aim to continue this momentum to ensure no child is left behind,” the official stated. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also serves as the state’s education minister, has been actively focused on advancing education in the state.
