Operation Sindoor: A Bold Step to Redefine Terrorism Stance
Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan emphasized India’s Operation Sindoor as a decisive move that establishes a “new red line” against terrorism. Speaking on Saturday, he expressed hope that the military action has imparted important lessons to India’s adversaries. During an event at the Shangri-La Dialogue, Gen Chauhan addressed inquiries about the operation and strategic stability in India-Pakistan relations, stating that mutual cooperation is essential, implying that “it takes two hands to clap together,” and expressing hope that this sentiment is understood by Pakistan.
The operation, launched on May 7, targeted nine terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This action was in direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals. Subsequent retaliatory actions against Pakistani offensives were conducted under the scope of Operation Sindoor.
The military confrontation lasted four days and escalated tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, bringing them close to a broader conflict. Gen Chauhan highlighted that India utilized both indigenous systems and foreign platforms during the operation. He noted, “We were able to penetrate air defense up to 300 km with pinpoint accuracy, targeting airfields and infrastructure deep inside Pakistan. This reflects the functionality of our equipment.”
Gen Chauhan, along with various defense chiefs and representatives from different nations, shared insights during the seminar titled ‘Defence Innovation Solutions for Future Challenges,’ which is part of the prestigious Shangri-La Dialogue summit in Asia.
