Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj has sharply criticized the BJP government for allegedly abandoning crucial electoral promises within its first 100 days in office. Speaking at a press conference, Bharadwaj accused the ruling party of dismantling welfare schemes that were vital for the citizens of Delhi, highlighting the impact of these changes on residents.
In particular, Bharadwaj pointed to the suspension of the Farishtey scheme, which provided free medical treatment for accident victims at private hospitals, and the closure of Mohalla Clinics. He expressed his dismay over the government’s inability to deliver on promises, such as the ₹2,500 monthly financial support for women, permanent jobs for bus marshals, and the rollback of increased private school fees. “All they have done is dismantle AAP’s welfare schemes,” Bharadwaj lamented.
The consequences of this shift are apparent, according to Bharadwaj, who noted, “The public is suffering. Power cuts are frequent, electricity prices have surged, school fees are rising arbitrarily, and water supply is deteriorating.” He urged Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to address these pressing issues, emphasizing the urgent need for responsive governance.
In a recent letter, Bharadwaj revealed that AAP MLAs had compiled a ‘100-day report card’ following discussions with residents. He underscored the lack of action regarding promised free LPG cylinders during festivals like Holi and Deepavali, pointing out that not a single cylinder has been distributed despite assurances. Instead of the promised reduction in prices to ₹500, residents are facing an increase of ₹50, further exacerbating financial strain.
Joining Bharadwaj’s chorus of discontent, Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav echoed these sentiments. He critically assessed the current administration’s impact on the city, stating, “A green and healthy Delhi under Sheila Dikshit was made sick in AAP’s first term, sent to the ICU in the second, and now the BJP has put it on a ventilator within 100 days.” This vivid analogy illustrates the perceived decline in governance and quality of life in New Delhi.
In response to these accusations, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva defended his party’s track record. He noted that the AAP government had promised a women’s pension scheme during the 2024-25 budget presentation but had failed to implement it.
