Unite for Peace: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Calls for Harmony and an End to Communal Hatred in Mangaluru!

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has underscored the urgent need for communal harmony in Dakshina Kannada district, a region currently fraught with tension following the murder of a youth on May 27 in Bantwal. Prohibitory orders are in effect in the town until May 30 in response to escalating unrest.

During a visit to the residence of Congress MLC B.K. Hariprasad on May 29, Siddaramaiah expressed his concerns regarding the situation in Mangaluru, emphasizing the importance of fostering peace between communities. “There should be communal harmony in that region. There should not be any hatred among Hindus and Muslims. We have to bring harmony there, for which we had a discussion,” he stated while addressing reporters after the meeting. He also encouraged Hariprasad to visit Mangaluru to assess the ground realities.

In light of recent violent incidents, including the revenge killings in the area, Siddaramaiah affirmed the government’s commitment to uphold the law, stating, “We will take action as per law against anyone involved in it irrespective of how influential that person is. No one is above the law. Law alone is above all.” This declaration comes amid rising concerns over safety and security in the district.

When questioned about the potential formation of an anti-communal task force, Siddaramaiah indicated that he would address this matter in future discussions. The Chief Minister is scheduled to meet with district deputy commissioners and CEOs of zilla panchayats on May 30 to evaluate ongoing rain-related issues, involving key ministers and secretaries.

Police investigations into the murder of Abdul Rehman have led to the detention of three individuals, including primary suspects Deepak and Sumith. This incident follows the murder of Hindutva activist Suhas Shetty on May 1, further heightening communal tensions in the coastal region.

As the situation unfolds, authorities are under increasing pressure to enforce law and order while promoting peace among communities in Dakshina Kannada. The Chief Minister’s proactive engagement signals a determined effort to restore stability and mitigate further violence in this delicate environment.
