Nagaland emerged as a promising investment destination during a significant meeting between state officials and a South Korean delegation on Wednesday. Sang Woo Lim, the South Korean Deputy Chief of Mission, expressed keen interest in Nagaland, remarking, “If I were to invest in India, Nagaland would be my top choice.”
The meeting took place in Kohima, organized by the Department of Industries and Commerce. It aimed to strengthen relationships in essential sectors such as trade, technological exchange, investment, and capacity building. The event was led by Hekani Jakhalu, an MLA and advisor to the department, along with Director P Tokugha Sema, while Lim led the visiting team from the Korean Embassy in New Delhi.
Discussions highlighted Nagaland’s natural advantages in areas like agro-processing, handicrafts, handloom, organic farming, and tourism. South Korea, recognized for its innovation and expertise in small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) development and training, sees a promising alignment with Nagaland’s growth priorities.
“Nagaland has vast untapped potential in sectors such as agro-processing, handloom and handicrafts, organic farming, health, and tourism,” Jakhalu noted during the discussion. He emphasized that partnerships like these could create opportunities for economic growth and empower the youth.
The meeting also addressed potential cultural and educational exchanges, including promoting Korean language education in Nagaland. Director Sema reaffirmed the department’s dedication to partnerships that yield tangible outcomes in employment and entrepreneurship.
Lim praised the hospitality shown by the state and reiterated South Korea’s growing interest in engaging further with northeastern India. He emphasized Korea’s willingness to collaborate with Nagaland on projects that promote sustainable industry, skill development, and mutual growth.
Both parties agreed to maintain ongoing dialogue to pinpoint specific areas for cooperation and implement joint initiatives. The discussions concluded positively, marked by a shared vision of fostering stronger institutional and community ties between Nagaland and South Korea.
