Security Heightened at Mizoram-Tripura Border Following Tourist Facility Blast
Security measures have been intensified along the Tripura-Mizoram border following a low-intensity explosion at an under-construction tourist facility, officials reported on Thursday. This incident took place early Wednesday morning in Betlingchhip, located in North Tripura district, where the state government is actively developing an eco-park and other tourist amenities, including a cafeteria.
Betlingchhip, recognized as the highest peak in Tripura, is situated close to Phuldungsei village in Mizoram’s Mamit district, an area that is also claimed by Mizoram. An earlier incident saw the destruction of a guest house under construction in this disputed region on May 28.
Mizoram’s Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), H. Ramthlengliana, informed PTI that the guest house, which was being built by the Tripura Forest Department, was damaged when unidentified individuals used explosives. He clarified that this structure was located in the contentious area near Phuldungsei village, now contested by both states.
Construction on the guest house was halted by the Tripura government following recent objections from Mizoram. Despite the explosion, Ramthlengliana noted that the situation along the inter-state border remains calm.
