Itanagar’s Weekly Market Ban: Strict Actions by Arunachal Government Explained
The Itanagar Capital Region’s district administration has made the critical decision to cancel all permits and licenses for local weekly markets, effective immediately. This course of action follows resolutions made during a meeting held on April 30, 2025, chaired by the Hon’ble Minister of Home for the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. Issued under Order No. DC/ICC/Jud-01/2025, this directive aligns with instructions from the Home Department, which reiterated the suspension of weekly markets throughout the state on May 7, 2025.
Despite these orders, the Google Daily Market in Chimpu, which operates similarly to a weekly market, continued its operations in defiance of the established guidelines. In response, the administration has now explicitly included this market in the recent ban.
Consequently, no weekly markets will be permitted to operate in any sector, colony, or locality within the Itanagar Capital Region. Violators of this directive will face strict administrative and legal consequences as per relevant laws. To ensure compliance, the Superintendent of Police for Itanagar and Naharlagun, along with Extra Assistant Commissioners and the Circle Officer of Banderdewa, has been directed to take necessary enforcement actions.
