Collector S. Uma inspected the newly inaugurated two-lane elevated flyover at Pallipalayam in Namakkal district on Thursday, affirming its safety and adherence to government quality standards. This statement comes in response to social media speculation alleging the presence of cracks and falling stones, which Uma characterized as misleading attempts to undermine government initiatives.
Earlier that day, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin officially launched the ₹424.38-crore Malliyakarai–Rasipuram–Tiruchengode–Erode Road project, which includes the 3.40 km Pallipalayam flyover. The project has been a significant demand by the public, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the region. It received administrative approval in 2018, with funding allocated in 2021.
Challenges arose when Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, the working president of the Pattali Makkal Katchi, raised concerns about construction flaws and alleged corruption regarding the ₹320-crore flyover. He called for an investigation after claiming that cracks had formed and stones had fallen from the structure.
In her remarks at the Collectorate, Uma reassured citizens that the flyover was designed with input from international experts from MSV International and JSV Associates Engineers. She confirmed that rigorous quality checks were conducted at every stage of construction. A structural and load test, utilizing a weight of 150 tonnes, was carried out in February, verifying the bridge’s strength and safety.
“Our flyover is robust, safe, and meets all quality regulations,” Uma emphasized. She also noted that maintenance will be managed by the contractor for the next seven years, allowing the public to use the flyover with complete confidence.
The completion of this flyover not only hopes to ease traffic woes in Pallipalayam but stands as a testament to government commitment to infrastructure development, amid scrutiny and allegations.
As the community eagerly anticipates the benefits of this newly inaugurated infrastructure, officials remain focused on ensuring the project meets its intended goals while addressing any concerns from the public.
