Tripura Youth Congress Urges Action: Demand for Employment Data Transparency
The Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress (TPYC) has called on Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to publish a white paper detailing government sector recruitment over the past seven years under the BJP-led administration. During a press conference, TPYC leader Sahajan Islam criticized what he termed “inconsistent statements” from the Chief Minister regarding job placements in state departments.
Islam pointed out discrepancies in the Chief Minister’s claims about job fills, noting that on December 18, 2024, Saha stated that 13,000 positions were filled. This number increased to 16,942 on April 28, 2025, and just two days ago, Saha reported that 19,262 roles had been filled across different categories. These conflicting figures, according to Islam, raise serious questions about the government’s hiring practices.
He appealed to Dr. Saha-whom he recognized as having a “clean image”—to clarify the recruitment situation by releasing a comprehensive white paper that details employment data since 2018. Additionally, the TPYC raised concerns about the broader unemployment crisis affecting the state, highlighting that Tripura, with a population of approximately 42 lakh, has nearly 7 lakh unemployed youths.
Islam alleged that the government is further prolonging recruitment processes, claiming that many job selections have been pending for two to three years. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “The youth of Tripura are struggling, and we cannot remain silent. If the government does not release the white paper soon, we will be compelled to launch statewide protests.”
Reiterating the commitment of the Youth Congress to support unemployed youths in the state, he affirmed that they will continue to advocate for change through all democratic means.
