India’s Test Squad Announcement: First Tour Without Rohit & Kohli!
India’s squad for the highly anticipated five-match Test series against England will be revealed today, May 24, by the Men’s Selection Committee, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The series is scheduled to commence on June 20 in Mumbai.
Following the selection meeting, there will be a press conference. Notably, the Indian cricket team is set to tour England in 2025 for another five-match Test series as part of the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship. These matches will take place from June to August 2025 at prestigious venues including Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord’s in London, Old Trafford in Manchester, and The Oval in London.
This series will mark India’s first bilateral engagement since the retirements of cricket stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket earlier this month. Before the series, India ‘A’ will face the England Lions in three matches, with the first match scheduled for May 30 at the St. Lawrence Ground in Canterbury.
Abhimanyu Easwaran is set to captain the India ‘A’ team in these fixtures, with wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel appointed as vice-captain. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan will join the ‘A’ squad ahead of the second match. Rohit Sharma concluded his 11-year Test career on May 7, having played 67 Tests and leaving a significant leadership gap just as the England tour approaches, which will activate India’s ICC World Test Championship campaign.
Rohit made his Test debut against the West Indies in November 2013, accumulating 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, including 12 centuries and 18 fifties. Virat Kohli also announced his retirement from Tests recently, closing the chapter on an illustrious career that spanned 14 years and 123 Tests.
During Kohli’s 14-year tenure, he transformed the Indian team into a winning machine, instilling a culture of aggression and fitness within a blend of youth and experience. He scored 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, with an impressive tally of 30 centuries and 31 fifties, finishing as India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in Test cricket.
