Taylor Swift Triumphs as Court Drama Ends; Blake Lively Celebrates!
Justin Baldoni and his legal team have reversed their earlier decision to involve pop star Taylor Swift in a court dispute with Blake Lively. According to a report from Deadline on Thursday, Baldoni has officially withdrawn the subpoena that sought information from Swift regarding the situation with Lively, who is a long-time friend. Previously, Baldoni had accused Swift of having a creative role in the case, specifically claiming that both she and Ryan Reynolds influenced changes to a rooftop scene in the film It Ends With Us. Reports indicate that Swift will no longer face a subpoena, and the inquiry concerning her has been officially halted.
On May 22, Baldoni’s legal team, led by Bryan Freedman, acknowledged they had acquired all necessary information, although they did not elaborate on their recent decision. In January, Baldoni shared a series of screenshots related to his lawsuit worth $400 million against Lively and her team, highlighting a dinner at Lively’s home attended by Reynolds and Swift, where he asserted he was compelled to modify the script to align with Lively’s preferences. He also shared images depicting Lively referring to her husband and best friends as "dragons," referencing the series Game of Thrones. While representatives from Swift and Baldoni did not comment, Lively’s spokesperson confirmed to Deadline that they are pleased the “inappropriate subpoena” has been dropped.
In light of the legal proceedings, Baldoni has also launched a website detailing his complaints against Lively and Reynolds. A representative for Lively expressed satisfaction with the withdrawal, stating, "We supported the efforts of Taylor’s team to quash these inappropriate subpoenas directed to her counsel…" They emphasized Swift’s status as an inspiration to millions and reiterated that exploiting her celebrity had been a part of the initial plan by PR professional Melissa Nathan.
This incident is not Lively’s first defense of Swift amid ongoing legal tensions. Previously, Lively’s team compared Baldoni’s actions to a “Barnum & Bailey Circus,” asserting that the defendants are using intimidation tactics that undermine women’s rights and reputations. Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni in December 2024 following the release of It Ends With Us, accusing him of sexual harassment, creating a hostile work environment, making unilateral creative changes, and spreading false information. Baldoni subsequently countersued her in January.
