Assam Offers Ex Gratia to Families of Pahalgam Terror Attack Victims
The Assam government announced on May 23 that it would provide ex gratia payments to the families of two victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. This decision follows an earlier declaration by the state cabinet to grant financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each to the families of the 26 people who lost their lives in the attack on April 22.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the update on his official X account, noting that cabinet ministers visited the homes of the two victims, N Ramachandran in Kerala and J S Chandramouli in Vishakapatnam, to deliver the aid directly to their families. Sarma expressed his condolences, stating, “A month has passed since the tragic Pahalgam massacre but the victims will always remain in our hearts and their families in our prayers.”
In another post, he mentioned that Minister Kaushik Rai visited Ramachandran’s family in Kerala to extend support and solidarity. Rai reported that he handed over the financial assistance and a condolence letter to Sheela Ramachandran, N Ramachandran’s wife. She expressed her gratitude over the phone, alongside her children, for the Chief Minister’s commitment to assisting them during this challenging period.
Additionally, Sarma noted that in Vishakapatnam, his cabinet colleague Prasanta Phukan prayed for the family of J S Chandramouli and provided them with a token of support. The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s solidarity with the families affected by the #Pahalgam Terrorist Attack, emphasizing their commitment to stand by them in their time of grief.
