AIADMK Urges Urgent Action: Demand for 50% Government Quota Seats in Private Medical Colleges!
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is urging Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan to step in to ensure that 50% of the seats under the government quota in private medical colleges are reserved for students from Puducherry. During a recent press conference, party secretary A. Anbalagan highlighted that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has mandated the allocation of half of the seats in private institutions be set aside for local students. However, he expressed concern that this directive is not being adhered to in Puducherry, where only 36% of the available seats are currently reserved under the government quota.
Anbalagan emphasized that timely intervention from the Lieutenant Governor is crucial to secure the proper representation for Puducherry students in the upcoming academic year. “The Lieutenant Governor should intervene and help obtain 50% seats this academic year,” he stated, stressing the importance of adhering to established regulations to benefit local applicants.
Further criticizing the local government, Anbalagan expressed discontent over their discussions with private medical college representatives, arguing that this undermines the clear guidelines issued by the NMC. He emphasized that the government’s failure to comply with such regulations compromises students’ access to necessary educational resources.
In addition to advocating for educational reforms, the AIADMK leader called for an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate into alleged illicit liquor smuggling from Puducherry to Tamil Nadu. This inquiry, according to Anbalagan, is essential for maintaining accountability in the region and tackling corruption.
The AIADMK’s initiatives for educational equity and integrity in governance reflect an ongoing commitment to addressing local issues that impact the community in Puducherry. By pushing for adherence to national policies and seeking accountability in other realms, the party aims to enhance the welfare of Puducherry’s residents.
As the academic year approaches, the developments surrounding seat reservations in private medical colleges are expected to dominate discussions among stakeholders. The AIADMK’s assertive stance highlights the importance of vigilance in educational policies and governmental accountability, emphasizing the need for protective measures to ensure opportunities for local students.
This situation continues to evolve, and the actions taken by public officials in the coming days will be pivotal in shaping the educational landscape in Puducherry.
