Assam Minister Ranjeet Dass Pushes for Year-Round Access to Manas National Park
Assam Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass has put forth a proposal to keep Manas National Park open to tourists year-round, highlighting its flood-free status and the potential boost this could give to regional tourism. Speaking at a public gathering in Salbari, Baksa district, Dass noted that, in contrast to Kaziranga National Park—often plagued by seasonal flooding—Manas has remained unaffected by floods since 2011, making it ideal for continuous tourist access.
He remarked, “With the Chief Minister having recently stayed in Manas, it would be a matter of pride and opportunity if we could also host Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the park,” underscoring the park’s increasing importance in Assam’s tourism sector.
Dass believes that maintaining year-round access to the national park could foster new economic growth and job opportunities, especially for local communities that depend on tourism for their livelihoods.
The state government is currently evaluating the logistical and ecological feasibility of ensuring the park remains accessible in all seasons.
