
Four Arrested in Manipur for Delhi, Jaipur Kidnapping; Five Militants Captured
Manipur police apprehended four individuals on May 18 and 19 at Himalayan Tiles Naka in Imphal West district for allegedly kidnapping and extorting two men from Delhi and Jaipur. The victims were reportedly enticed to Manipur under the guise of receiving training for a networking business. However, upon reaching Imphal, they were abducted and threatened with death unless a ransom was paid.
The suspects posed as armed goons and held the victims captive until police intervened. Those arrested have been identified as Laishram Hellary Meetei (35) from Thampnapokpi Mayai Leikai, Thangjam Lemba Singh (27) from Ngairangbam, Huirem Anand Singh (43) from Naoremthong Takhellambam Leikai, and Nahakpam Naresh Singh (28) from Langol Type II. Authorities recovered several items from the accused, including a .32 pistol with a magazine, five live rounds, two gun licenses, a pocket knife, two mobile phones, and a four-wheeler.
The police are currently investigating the extent of the criminal network and have not ruled out the possibility of additional victims. Fortunately, the rescued individuals are reported safe.
In a separate operation, police apprehended an active cadre of the proscribed KCP (PWG), Leimapokpam Abem Chanu alias Sanathoi alias Monika (25) from Wahengkhuman Maning Leikai in Bishnupur District. She was allegedly involved in extorting money by threatening oil pumps in the valley. A mobile phone, two SIM cards, and an Aadhaar card were seized from her.
Additionally, three more active KCP (PWG) cadres were arrested from a rented house in Sagolband Thingom Leikai under Imphal Police Station. They are Oinam Shantikeshor Singh alias Inaoton alias Shanti Khuman (35) from Thanga Ngaram Leikai, Bishnupur District; Kangabam Sony Chanu alias Thoithoi (18) from Khongakhul Maning Leikai, Imphal West District; and Leishangthem Uma Devi alias Tombimacha (21) from Langmeidong Mamang Leikai, Kakching District. This trio is also accused of extorting money from various shops, with police confiscating four mobile handsets, two wallets, Rs. 2,620 in cash, and two Aadhaar cards.
Separately, Huirem Dinesh Meetei alias Sanouton (32) of Jiribam District, another active cadre of the RPF/PLA, was arrested from Meitei Lamkhai Chajing under Singjamei Police Station, with one mobile phone found in his possession.
