Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru officially launched work on the second phase of the Panjapur to Kudamurutti link road on Saturday, alongside inaugurating new infrastructure projects in Tiruchirapalli valued at ₹2.04 crore. The initiative includes several community facilities designed to enhance local amenities and support residents.
Among the newly inaugurated facilities is a bus shelter at Aravanur Mela Pandamangalam, constructed at a cost of ₹10 lakh. Additionally, community toilets are now available on Keerakollai Street and Cholarajapuram, costing ₹22.80 lakh and ₹12 lakh respectively. Other noteworthy projects include the installation of borewells with electric motors and drinking water tanks—each costing ₹3 lakh—across various streets such as Vandikara, South Vella, and Ramalinga Nagar II Main Road. A ration shop at Ramnagar was also inaugurated at a cost of ₹13 lakh, showcasing the government’s commitment to improving essential services in the area.
The newly launched phase II of the link road project will stretch 9.8 kilometers from Panjapur to the banks of Kudamurutti. With a budget of ₹68 crore sourced from the Tamil Nadu Urban Development Fund and the Corporation General Funds, this phase will enhance connectivity by covering a 2.15-km distance along the Koraiyar River, featuring a two-lane, 10-meter wide roadway. An elevated highway, complete with an overbridge over the railway track, will span 1.19 kilometers, enhancing accessibility and reducing congestion.
Further elements of the project include the construction of a retaining wall over 840 meters and a storm-water drain that will incorporate a walking track stretching 870 meters. Completion of these significant infrastructure upgrades is anticipated by November 2026, marking a pivotal step toward bolstering urban development in Tiruchirapalli.
Prominent officials joining Minister Nehru during the launch included Collector M. Pradeep Kumar, Mayor M. Anbazhagan, and Corporation Commissioner V. Saravanan, signifying strong government support for these critical enhancements to public infrastructure.
