Delhi University (DU) is set to introduce a uniform policy for determining faculty seniority, aimed at clarifying its promotion processes. The committee, chaired by the Dean of Colleges, includes prominent college principals and members of both the Executive and Academic Councils, as well as representatives from SC, ST, and OBC communities. Over the year, the committee convened five times to finalize their detailed proposal. Importantly, this new recommendation will not alter the existing reservation policy, which currently applies solely to recruitment, according to the official.
In the report, the committee emphasized the need for clarity, noting that there have been significant concerns and allegations of ambiguity regarding seniority methodologies used in various departments across colleges. They concluded that when the relative merit of faculty members is equal, seniority should be determined based on age or date of birth—an approach designed to ensure consistency and transparency in faculty promotions.
