Body of Woman Found in Suitcase: Family Alleges Suicide, Say Cops
Police discovered a woman’s body stuffed inside a large suitcase at her home in Shahjahanpur on Sunday, following claims from her family that she had committed suicide. The 32-year-old victim, identified as Savita, was reportedly found by officers after her husband, Ashok Kumar, stated she had hanged herself with a scarf. He allegedly moved her body and concealed it in the suitcase, fearing possible police repercussions.
The couple’s children supported their father’s version of events. Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi confirmed that the body was recovered at their residence in Tilhar town. Savita’s brother-in-law had initially notified the police, asserting that she had taken her own life.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they uncovered her body hidden within the suitcase. A preliminary examination indicated there were marks on her neck, and the body had not yet begun to decompose. During questioning, Ashok maintained that Savita had hanged herself and explained his decision to hide the body was motivated by fear of police intervention.
Despite corroboration from the couple’s children, the concealment of the body raised suspicions among investigators. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and a thorough investigation is currently underway. Legal action will be taken against anyone found responsible for the incident, according to Superintendent Dwivedi.
