Scindia, Himanta Unveil 5-Point Agenda for Assam’s Rapid Growth
Union Minister of Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, convened a significant review meeting in Guwahati today with Assam’s Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, to evaluate the progress of critical development projects throughout the state. This meeting underlined the Centre’s commitment to being a proactive facilitator in Assam’s development efforts, stressing the need to achieve full saturation of essential social goals in the Vibrant Villages initiative. Scindia advocated for a mission-mode approach to ensure outcomes that are not only measurable but also sustainable.
A primary focus of their discussions was the vast economic potential of agarwood. The Minister emphasized the necessity of positioning agarwood as a high-value economic asset, tapping into its increasing global demand. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of enhancing the value chain within Assam’s traditional Muga silk industry, which would empower local weavers to increase their earnings and improve their standing in the market. Scindia also noted the recent historic achievements of the BJP in Assam’s panchayat elections.
The review extended to Assam’s pursuit of self-reliance in palm oil production, in line with the national goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Scindia commended the state’s initiatives and assured continued support from the central government in this sector.
Tourism development emerged as a key area of discussion, with both leaders expressing a unified vision of showcasing Assam’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty on the global platform. The Minister reassured the Chief Minister of ongoing collaboration from the Union Government to drive inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development across Assam and the greater Northeast region.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to closely coordinate efforts, expedite vital projects, and maximize the region’s economic potential, ensuring that the benefits of development extend to every corner of the state.
